Over time, situations may arise that will require you to replace or remove a tracking beacon from a piece of equipment. Our Kahi Configuration mobile app, available on both the Android and iOS app stores, provides you the option to either Swap or Detach a tracking beacon.
To start:
- Pull up the asset in question in the mobile app by either scanning the QR code on the associated beacon using the app’s QR Scanner or search the asset’s name on the app’s home page.
- Viewing the asset’s information, there will be a “Beacon Actions” button to tap that will give you the option to either Swap or Detach the asset’s beacon.
An important note: deleting an asset from within the Kahi web application will not free the asset from its associated beacon - if deleting an asset, you will first have to Detach its beacon to reuse in the future.
Swapping beacons
A potential use case for needing to Swap a beacon would be replacing a broken or damaged beacon on a piece of equipment with a new beacon.
To remove a beacon from an asset but continue to track the asset with a new beacon, you will want to select the Swap option under Beacon actions. This will allow you to assign a new beacon to the asset already in your inventory list.
Detaching beacons
A potential use case for needing to Detach a beacon would be removing a beacon from an asset that you are planning to sell.
To detach a beacon from an asset that you no longer wish to track, you will want to select the Detach option under Beacon actions. This will free up that particular beacon to be used on other assets.
HOT TIP: If you have an asset that has lost its beacon, you can still swap and/or detach the previously assigned beacon from it via your Kahi mobile app, even without the physical beacon! Simply log into the Kahi web app, find the affected asset from your asset list, and look at the asset detail page. You can scan the QR code with your Kahi mobile app for the asset right from your computer screen, as we include a copy of it in the details.
