What's the scoop on the Tracking Beacons' batteries? The beacons use a CR2477 Lithium Cell battery.
How will I know if the battery is low or dead in my Tracking beacon? You will get a 'low battery' alert in your Kahi Notifications in the web app for a beacon running low on power (50% life left), which will escalate to a 'critical low battery' alert (25% life) if not changed.
When your beacon needs a new battery: we'll give you the alert; below are some tips on finding the piece you need to update.
Scan the beacon on the asset when it comes back from a job or off of a vehicle - When you go to clean your equipment after a job, go ahead and scan that beacon and check the battery status. When you find an asset that needs the battery changed in the beacon, put a Sticky Note (Post it Note) or Duct Tape on the asset to show that one needs changed.
Organize your equipment by number [create an Internal ID your pieces of equipment (IE Dehu 17)] - When you organize your equipment by number, it will be easier to verify where that piece of equipment is and easier to change the batteries in the future. (ie. Put Dehu's 1-20 on a shelf then 21-40 on another shelf)
Add additional pictures to the asset in Kahi - We always recommend having 3 pictures of the asset when provisioning (Picture of the Manufacturer ID plate, where the beacon is placed, and the full asset), that way the asset is easier to identify not only for our cataloging team, but for you as well!
How can I tell if I installed the battery correctly? When installing the battery into the beacon, ensure the battery is "+" side UP. When sliding in, a blue light will flash for a brief second under the beacon panel. This is best viewed in low light
How durable are the Kahi tracking beacons? When threaded tightly, the beacons are 100% protected against solid objects like dust and sand and have been tested to work for at least 30 minutes while under 15cm to 1m of water. They are IP67* rated.
*What is IP67? If a product has an IP67 rating, that indicates it is "waterproof." The 6 indicates "complete protection against dust over extended time" as well as "protection against contact with objects greater than 1mm in diameter, such as a wire or a small tool."
My Kahi tracking beacon isn't coming 'online' when I try to add it through my Configuration app. What's wrong? When scanning in a beacon, it may take a minute or two for the beacon to come online for the first time.
Ensure your battery is installed correctly (battery + side up) and is within range of your online Warehouse Gateway.
Try using a different battery if you've confirmed the battery was installed right and nothing changes - it could be a bum battery. You can test a battery with a multi-meter to determine if it's a dud.
If a different battery doesn't work, try a different beacon, and connect with support@kahi.io about the dud beacon.
Check the beacon's metal casing - if the metal casing is loose, it may be causing a loose connection with the battery. Give it a squeeze to ensure a tight fit.
If your beacon is not coming online after doing these troubleshooting steps - connect with Kahi Support!
