How do the Kahi-Enabled Ravens work within the Kahi tracking eco-system? The Kahi Ravens actively scan for beacons once the vehicle is on and active. Vehicles outfitted with a Raven typically aren't actively scanning when parked and only start to scan once the vehicle has been moving for several minutes. If a Vehicle is parked within the geofence of a confirmed job site or Warehouse location, the assets will be ‘assigned’ to the site location rather than the vehicle, though the beacons will still receive ‘scans’ from the Raven. You can view this information from the Asset Details page, under “Tracking”.
When an asset is moved from its home Warehouse to the vehicle with a Raven, they may not 'snap' to the vehicle immediately. While the tracking is done in "near real time", there are a few things to consider. If the trip from Point A to B is short, very likely the assets will not "snap" to the vehicle (not enough time). It's more likely that once the vehicle arrives at the job location, the site will be discovered, and once 'confirmed', the assets will snap to the location (rather than the vehicle).
How do I rename my Kahi Raven devices in Kahi? To change the name of your Kahi Raven, you must do so from the Raven platform. Once updated, the name change will be reflected in the Kahi platform. Vehicles should be named uniquely, to avoid cross-over static on the platform.
Log into your Raven account. Click the "Resources" tab that is vertically located on the left side of the screen. Locate the vehicle that you wish to rename, and hover your mouse on it - an 'edit' pencil will appear. Click on the pencil and rename the vehicle however you wish to identify it.
Some suggestions include: Warehouse Identifier (if you have multi locations) plus Vehicle Make/Model and Number, Vehicle Make/Model and License Number Owner/operator of the vehicle and Vehicle Make/Model
What’s included in the box when I purchase a Kahi-Enabled Raven through Kahi? Raven 6′ OBDII cable Adhesive mount 4 adhesive cable clips Alcohol cleaning wipe Allen key SD card Security cable and cover (These are not required to be installed, but can add additional protection against tampering; you will need a screw driver for installation. Watch the installation video for more information)
Where can I access a troubleshooting guide for Raven? Please contact Kahi Support (support@kahi.io ) for assistance with any issues that may come up with your Raven.
What do the Kahi Raven statuses mean, anyway? Tracking Status - Online or Offline Tracking status indicates whether the device is active and ready to track beacons
🟢 Online indicates that the vehicle is in use, running, and actively reporting 🔵 Offline indicates that the vehicle is not in use for a period of time or the OBD port connection is loose/disconnected (possibly requiring further investigation if its offline for any other reason)
Relevance Status - Inactive or Active Relevance status indicates whether the vehicle is currently scanning beacons on assets
🟢 Active indicates that there are assets affiliated with the vehicle 🔵 Inactive indicates that there are no assets affiliated with the vehicle
My mobile gateway says it is "unplugged" in the Raven app. What does this mean? An unplugged event is when the mobile gateway unit (Raven) is not receiving power from the vehicle or a cable is loose.
If you notice this status for one of your devices, it could be that someone may have unplugged the device, or there is a loose connection from the OBD cable to Raven. The OBD fuse on the vehicle can also cause the same issue.
The unplugged event is essentially informing you that 12 volts of power has been severed to the Raven. The Raven will shut down and be unavailable via LTE if the car battery is 12.1 volts or lower.
Though the Raven is equipped with an internal battery, it is not meant for operation, and is intended to be used for troubleshooting and data transfer.
Without the needed power, the mobile gateway will run out of battery and will halt the tracking of assets. Once power is restored to the mobile gateway and it is back up and running, the assets within the vehicle will then snap to the mobile location.
Depending on when power was lost, assets may remain assigned to their 'home' location (if they were not picked up prior to the power loss), or they may fall into a homesick state until they are picked up by the re-powered mobile unit, or returned to a warehouse with an online Kahi gateway.
💡Tip: Check the OBD connection to your mobile (Raven) unit to ensure it is plugged in securely. If you are using an adaptor for the port, check the connection as well. Contact support@kahi.io if you have continued issues with the connection for other troubleshooting ideas!
What happens if vehicles go out of cellular coverage range? The Ravens will still record information and track your assets even if in ‘dead’ cellular zones. Raven offers extensive wireless connectivity across North America, covering highways and cities. The information transmitted may lag a bit, but will be resent once back into a receptive area.
What if we have concerns about privacy with using the Raven gateways? We understand that your company may have concerns about employee privacy when using dash cams that have a cabin-facing camera. Some features that may be helpful for some are not for everyone, and you can disable some of them!
The audio recording feature can be disabled in the settings console of your Raven account.
The cabin-facing camera can also be disabled by turning this feature off. If you decide to leave the camera off, you will not be able to track driver analytics that are specific to the driver. However, if you assign your vehicles to drivers, you can track the driver behaviour by vehicle ID.
