Kahi makes it easy to start a new monitoring session at a job site with just a few taps in the mobile app. This section outlines the full setup process—from arriving onsite to confirming your first sensor installation.
Preparing for Onsite Setup
Before you begin, make sure you:
- Have your EnviroSensors, probe leads, and mobile device ready.
- Allow EnviroSensors to acclimate for at least 30 minutes after transport, especially if temperature or humidity differs significantly from storage conditions.
- (Optional) Plug in and place the Job Site Gateway in a central, unobstructed location.
Turning Sensors On and Off
To turn on: Tap the power button once. All LEDs will blink once to indicate the sensor has powered on.
To turn off manually: Press the A button and the power button at the same time. The red and blue LEDs will blink twice.
Auto power-off: Sensors will automatically power down when removed properly during a teardown using the Kahi Mobile App.
Checking EnviroSensor Battery Life
The expected battery life of the EnviroSensors is roughly one year, however the exact duration will depend on the conditions in which they are used, how frequently they are deployed to a Job Site and how often device firmware is updated.
The battery life of the sensor can be checked while the sensor is on by pressing and holding the (A) button and interpreting the LED blink sequence that is displayed.
LED Blink Sequence | Meaning | Action Required |
1 green light while holding | More than 75% charge remaining | No action required |
1 yellow light while holding | Between 50% and 75% charge remaining | No action required |
1 red light while holding | Less than 50% charge remaining | Consider replacing the battery if the sensor is expected to remain continuously online at a long running Job Site. |
3 red blinks | Less than 25% charge remaining | Replace the battery before deploying on a job site |
Selecting or Creating the Job Site
- Open the Kahi Mobile App.
- Tap the “Job Sites” tab.
- Select the appropriate Job Site, or
- Tap the ➕ (plus) icon to create a new job site.
- Enter basic details (e.g., name, address, notes) and tap “Save”.
- Select the “Monitoring” tab to begin configuring the session
Setting Up Chambers
Common Chambers:
- Kahi provides 3 default Common Chambers per job:
- Outside
- HVAC
- Unaffected
- These chambers are automatically created but can be renamed (e.g., “Exterior Balcony” instead of “Outside”).
- Sensors can be installed in these chambers immediately
Affected Chambers:
- Tap “Configure New Affected Chamber”.
- Scan and install a sensor.
- Name the chamber (e.g., “Living Room”).
- Confirm and continue.
Repeat this for each affected room or space you want to monitor.
Installing Sensors
Sensors must be installed into chambers to start tracking environmental data.
To Install a Sensor:
- Select a chamber or tap “Configure New Affected Chamber”
- Tap “Configure Sensor” on a chamber (Affected or Common).
- Choose your scanning method:
- NFC (Tap phone to sensor), or
- Press the “X” to enter QR Code scanning mode (Scan barcode on the sensor)
- Wait for the app to connect to the sensor.
- Tap “Install Sensor In Chamber.”
- Physically place the sensor and probe in the correct location within the chamber.
Associating Sensors with Assets
To monitor specific drying equipment:
- Follow the standard sensor installation flow as mentioned above.
- When prompted, select “Install Sensor on Asset.”
- Tap NFC or scan the asset QR code.
- The sensor will now be linked to that asset in the app and report data accordingly.
Finalizing Setup & Starting the Monitoring Session
Once at least one sensor is installed into any chamber (Common or Affected):
- The Monitoring Session starts automatically.
- Each chamber begins capturing readings, and the app or gateway will begin syncing data to the Kahi platform.
- You can now leave the site and monitor the incoming data remotely if a Job Site Gateway is installed—or return later with the app to manually collect readings.
